The day has come for your liposuction treatment. What can you expect? Learn more about your Aqualipo® surgery day, as well as the pre and post-procedure specifics. Although your Aqualipo® surgeon will answer any questions that apply to your particular situation, below we’ve included answers to some of the most frequently asked questions about Aqualipo®.
Aqualipo® is truly a breakthrough in liposuction treatment. In the past, traditional liposuction was performed in the hospital under general anesthesia, with patients enduring weeks of painful recovery. Because the Aqualipo® procedure is safer and gentler, patients will have a very different experience on surgery day, as well as during the weeks after surgery.
For the majority of patients, Aqualipo® is performed with only local anesthesia, limiting the medical risk and post-operative discomfort associated with general anesthesia. Since Aqualipo® is minimally invasive, patients do not usually require general anesthesia like they would with traditional liposuction. This is one of the many differences between water lipo and traditional liposuction. Depending on your situation, your Aqualipo® surgeon may elect to administer an anti-anxiety medication to increase your comfort during the procedure.
Before the procedure begins, photos will be taken and your skin will be marked to indicate areas that you wish to have treated. Then, your skin will be numbed so that a tiny incision can be made to create access to the fat layer. Numbing fluid will be infused through this incision. Most patients describe this as a “weird,” but not painful, sensation. Once your prep is completed, it’s time for your water liposuction procedure.
First, your Aqualipo® surgeon will place the cannula through the small incision. The cannula will gently wash away the targeted fat in both the deep fat compartment and the area right under the skin. This water lipo technique dislodges fat cells from their adjacent tissues, making them easier to remove. These fat cells are then suctioned out of the body. The powerful spray will flush away your fat, while promoting skin tightening in the surrounding areas.
Since Aqualipo® is minimally invasive, patients do not need to worry about extensive stitches or scars. A small incision is made around the treatment area and can be well-hidden. There is no need for the lengthy incisions that accompany traditional body sculpting surgery.
The entire procedure typically takes just 30 to 45 minutes for each area of the body. Depending on your procedure goals and specifics outlined in your water lipo consultation, our surgeons may treat multiple areas of the body. Patients are usually discharged within 15 minutes after the procedure is completed.
Many Aqualipo® patients feel comfortable driving themselves to and from surgery. This is due to the minimally invasive nature of water lipo. However, there is nothing wrong with planning ahead and arranging for a loved one or friend to drive you to and from your Aqualipo® treatment. Our doctors can further discuss the specifics of your procedure with you during your consultation.
Most patients can return to their regular activities immediately, because Aqualipo® doesn’t require general anesthesia and effectively minimizes trauma to the body. This differs from traditional liposuction patients, who usually require extensive downtime on surgery day, as well as extended time off work to recover. Aqualipo® patients can resume their daily routines much more quickly.
